CA Academy of Sciences 6/01

A much-needed break from working toward our final review, SF Urban spent a Thursday night attending CA Academy of Science’s NightLife: a 21+ event from 6-10 pm which includes live music, food and cocktails, and all typical exhibits that are open during the day.

The theme of the night is the second volume of the NightLife: Says Who? series, exploring how different lived experiences allow us to learn from each other and create deeper understanding and connection. There were many renowned featured speakers who sparked interesting conversations about art, science, and society. As a class, we attended the planetarium show “Tour of the Universe” at 6:30, the first live-show ever at CA Academy of Sciences. We also got to experience the wonderfully immersive 4-story rainforest exhibit, with colorful butterflies and camouflaged reptiles, as well as the underground aquarium, with glowing jellyfish and vibrant fishes. The earthquake simulator was a great experience, as was witnessing the penguins walking around their enclosure in the Natural History Museum. The living roof was beautiful to visit at night, with the glowing lights from below contrasting the darkened hills.

With visually stunning and interactive exhibits, the CA Academy of Sciences served as a wonderful venue for learning and relaxing with friends.

MARY: “There is no doubt that a night at the Academy of Sciences will be an unforgettable experience for those who seek to learn about the cosmos, observe captivating marine life, or simply enjoy the enchanting atmosphere created by the institution.

MASON: “My favorite exhibit was the planetarium. It was really interesting to see all that we know of the universe.”

IZZY: “I absolutely loved the observatory show. It was really amazing and I would definitely go to see it again in the future.”
